Sustainability seeks to provide the best outcomes for the human and natural environments both now and into the indefinite future.
Whilst safety must not be compromised at any price, sustainable practice is essential to ensure both new and existing facilities are economic to operate. The greatest single energy user is the HVAC system, and this is where opportunities exist for sustainable practice including the following:
- Optimised component selection (e.g. air filtration).
- “At rest” set-back and hibernation modes for airflow, temperature and humidity.
- Tuning, optimization, and calibration of controls and BMS systems.
Critical Systems is working on sustainable solutions for the design of new assets and facilities as well as seeking improvement to existing operations. Some more examples of sustainable best practice are:
- Selection of best options for sanitisation of purified water systems (heat vs ozone).
- The impact of isolators on the resource consumption of aseptic processing facilities.
- Variable speed pumping utility systems.
